Teknoglass advanced glazing systems has remained an intrinsic part of the team providing solutions for Southampton University Hospital. As with any project in such a sensitive environment, we put patient care, hygiene and usability at the forefront of the solutions that we design and implement for the trust.
Modern operating theatres employ a wide range of leading-edge technology including the use of lasers. The technology comes with its own set of risks, and we were approached by the main contractor on behalf of the trust to provide a solution to the challenge of ensuring no external radiation leaks during operating procedures.
Our solution was to install high quality automatic laser blinds in the 4 operating theatres with external glazing. To further protect the blinds and improve infection control the blinds are housed behind secondary glazing. The blinds are raised and lowered by a one touch switch within the operating theatre.
We worked with the main contractor to ensure the blinds were installed in a timely fashion were operational well before the theatres were commissioned.
